2 Corinthians 10:5 ...Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God... What do you make of this scripture? What does it say to you? Have you had any life experience to which this scripture applies?

Looking at the scripture in full context, 2 Corithians 10:3-6 says: "3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

It looks to me like a "do it yourself deliverance" from both the direct attacks of the enemy and the indirect assault that we daily encounter through the world system governed indirectly by the same enemy of our Lord and our Souls. What do you think?

Editorial correction -- Hello, what I interrupt from this is that I should not waste my time and talent in arguments and ill doings, nor should I get lost in longing for materials things. I should use my talents and gifts in glorifying the Lord through helping others and spreading the good news. We were created to praise him. Through Gods knowledge and guidance we can conquer anything.

Thank you my dear Sister. When you introduced the idea of "not getting lost in longing for material things(or carnal things as the KJV will put it), you are actually echoing 1 John 2:15 where the Christian is instructed to "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world". Whereas we are in the World and do have need of things of this World while we are here. We must interact with the systems of this World, but yes, if we are not careful and discerning, we can allow material things or relationships to become "exalted against the true knowledge of the living God" in our lives. And after sometime, they become strongholds and separate us from the one who loved us and gave himself for us. That brings another scripture to mind, Galatians 5:17 "For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would".

I bleieve its a call to remain in the place of trust and belief in what God has said and done despite words or circumstances that speak to the contrary.
This verse of scripture reminds me of the need to exalt the knowledge of who God says I am and all He's made possible for me through the work of the cross above every other thought, knowlegde or argument.
One recent experience I had in relation to this verse is with regards to uncertainty about the future; and what I do is to remind myself that "God causes everything to work together for my good and He guides my steps working in me both to will and do of His good pleasure". I also remind myself constantly of the victory Christ obtained over the forces of evil and walk in the authority of a son of God when people try to tell me how wicked the devil and his cohorts are; I choose rather to concentrate on the power and greatness of my GOD!

From Dr. Ifelayo's comments, we can clearly see one of the ways the devil operates, one of his wiles....he uses every means possible to show us that we cannot be or do what God has said concerning us. In other words, he tries to make God a liar. He tries to exalt his lies above God's Word in our lives. Much like he did to Eve in the garden. "And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? Genesis 3:1" And once he got her attention, he wasted no time to upload his core agenda: "verse 4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. He discredited God to Eve, calling Him a liar. " Eve, gave thought to the serpents words, exalted it above God's command, and imagined herself being like God as was suggested by Satan. What followed is history. The type of history Satan wants to repeat in your life and my life everyday. Now, Baba is saying to us to cast down every ungodly imaginations and pull down every stronghold of the devil....that sounds like battle of the minds. thank you my Brother.

To me it ministers letting go of my doubts and every 'wisdom' that is contrary to the to God's word or instructions to me. In my personal life God has made promises to me which have been over 10 years and seem may never happen. The devil also seeks to torment me with lies of 'realities' which are contrary to what God has said to me. My responsibility is to tear down these words with the word of God, holding them to be superior to any other word.

Well said Biodun. The devil brings "counterfeits and forgeries" to derail us and hinder us from obtaining God's promises. Sometimes the ideas and packages of Satan looks so convincing and compelling. I fact, they are often designed to look like they are from God and they are the real thing. Scriptures says that Satan disguises himself as the "Angel of Light". Elders who have gone before us gave this warning : "Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall". Another Elder who was sifted like guinea corn by the enemy and made it only through the grace of Christ said, "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour". Thank you my darling Sister for sharing these thought with us.

Beloved, the scripture says '.............for this reason was the Son of Man made manifested that He might destroy all the works of the devil' 1 Jn3:8. In view of this scripture, it will suffice therefore to know that all the 'self' exaltation of the devil against the eternal knowledge and victory of the Lord is only an effort in futility. We are born of God, and as long as we remain so, all threats from the devil is not relevant because greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. In this season, we need to be loaded with the word of God and confess it daily, The pressure out there is enormous, but what I tell myself is that if God did it for me in the past, and He is still the same God yesterday, today and forevermore, then the devil has lost the battle over my coming testimony. Stop allowing the devils threat. Take the battle to him with the word of God and unfailing faith. David took the battle to Goliath and got the required victory for the nation of Israel. You and I are required to take the battle to the devil and deliver our family, brethren and friends from his harrassment. Victory is already guaranteed. Thanks Ayo for this wonderful opportunity.

The Amplified Bilbe renders 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 like this:

"For though we walk (live) in the flesh, we are not carrying on our warfare according to the flesh and using mere human weapons. For the weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood], but they are mighty before God for the overthrow and destruction of strongholds, [Inasmuch as we] refute arguments and theories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God; and we lead every thought and purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One), Being in readiness to punish every [insubordinate for his] disobedience, when your own submission and obedience [as a church] are fully secured and complete".

I also love the Darby translation:
"For walking in flesh, we do not war according to flesh. For the arms of our warfare [are] not fleshly, but powerful according to God to [the] overthrow of strongholds; overthrowing reasonings and every high thing that lifts itself up against the knowledge of God, and leading captive every thought into the obedience of the Christ; and having in readiness to avenge all disobedience when your obedience shall have been fulfilled".

I always thought this meant we should not stand at the kitchen sink and imagine terrible accidents when our 16-year-old is out for the first time alone in the car. And, yes, I have had many incidents when I have had to quote this scripture to myself. So it works this way for me.
